No Laptop Per Me program update
Another email from the OLPC foundation:
Still doesn't explain how Canadians got theirs before me. This is worse than Food-for-Oil.

Dear Donor, Please accept my apologies for the delay in receiving your XO laptop. Give One Get One was such a phenomenal success that we over-taxed our order processing and payment systems. Demand exceeded supply.
Additional XO laptops are being built now and will be delivered in 30 to 45 days. If you wish to reconsider your contribution in the face of this delay, we will issue a refund to you. We have set up a dedicated phone line for these requests. The number is 1-800-201-7144. In the meanwhile, please know that laptops are in the process of going to Mongolia, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Rwanda and Haiti as part of the "give one" side of the equation. Fortunately, OLPC's mission of getting laptops to the children in these countries has not been delayed. Bye Bye, Google Ads
Firefox has been crashing like crazy lately. I can't even open up the New York Times web page with Firefox anymore. Noticed googlesyndicate.com loading in the background whenever it happened. First tried disabling firebug for it. That didn't work. So just ad-blocked the bitch. Problem solved. Sorry, Google. No more ads for you.

Scudder Fund DWS
Just got a call from some flunky asking me to vote by proxy over the fund as a shareholder. I think I know what funds I'm a shareholder of. Asked him for a website, but he didn't know what it was. Oh yeah, then what's this?

Over 20 minutes on hold today only to be told that my computer is in a warehouse somewhere and will be sent out some time in February. No other info. I've gotten better support from HP. HP!

Give One Get The Run-Around Program
I hate to bad-mouth a worthy cause like the OLPC program. But motherfucker. I signed up for their goddamned Give One Get One program last November and still haven't got my fucking Fisher-Price laptop. What's worse, every time I email them, I get a fucking form letter.
But what really pisses me off is that people in Canada are getting their laptops before me. And they were supposed to get them after all the American donors got theirs.
Also, I ordered before the first deadline. Then they extended it for like a month. Now I'm told that they've run out of supplies. Motherfucker. I guess this is why do-gooders can't be trusted with the management of enterprise-scale operations. But then again, who can?
I finally called and got referred to a website where, when I enter my order number, I receive the message:
I hope so. Hippies.
