The Hot Lead Co. called my home number @ 4:59 AM and then my home office line @ 5:00 AM this morning. I called them back, and the message is the number (818-638-8049) is no longer in sevice. I filed a complaint with the Do Not call Registry. These clowns are in Plano Tx. Someone needs to go over there and fire bomb their office.

I just got a call from these people last night at about 1am. I am going to file a complaint with the Do Not Call registry as well.

I just got a call from them too and will also file a complaint. There was nobody there when I answered the call so I'm wondering what their purpose/intent is in the first place.

I find this kind of maddening. I got a phone call from "The Hot Lead Co" at 2:30 AM this morning. We've had a rough time lately - death in the family, et al, so middle-of-the-night calls are especially unsettling.

Here's the thing, though - 818 is a Los Angeles, CA area code. Since you called it back and it said it was disconnected, I'm guessing they're using some sort of Caller ID spoofing service?

I don't know, but I feel like I need to find out. There seems to be an incredibly small amount of information on "The Hot Lead Co" online, which leads me to believe that it's a bogus name, and the relationship to the Plano, TX company may just be coincidence.

Since a number of people have been ending up on this post and a few people commenting, I can provide the following update on my complaint to the FCC:

Hi, Same thing with us. We got a call 3:30 in the morning. We are an 818 and I called them back and had no response. My parents are in Orange County and they had recieved a call at an earlier date, also in the middle of the night. I wonder if they talk or hand up if one would answer the phone.

Bitches called me at 4:31 am - I am in 818, and I am unlisted - actually like 4 people know this phone number at all, since I never use my landline. I spent all night trying to sleep and right when I'm in the middle of a sweet dream - @ssh0le call wakes me up. I wonder what this is. I don't see it being someone who hates me because, well, no one knows my number :-)

I got a number for these assholes from 411, it's 818-242-0273 and their address is 401 north Brand Blvd in Glendale CA. I have reported them to the police in both Glendale and Burbank. This info is received from my Vonage 411 service on 04.08.06 out of Burbank,CA. I used to run a business of uncovering stealth assholes like this. If I don't get the right answers from athorities on a superficial level I may open up a paid search $$$. If we can get an email address for them I have some great software that will reveal their location fairly quick.

We received a call at home at exactly 3 AM last night (April 10). We didn't answer - but, woke us all up. There was no message. I checked the caller ID this morning and found The Hot Lead Com at 818-638-8049. I live in Burbank, CA which is in the 818 area code. This is definitely not Texas. Someone local is making these calls.
I remember a year or so ago there were strange calls going out at all hours and they found it was a machine that was programmed wrong.

The purpose of these guys calling is to identify fax numbers. If a fax machine picks up the line then they have a number to can sent Spam Faxes to. That is what happened to me. I received a blank fax from these guys at first but then all of a sudden I started receiving Spam Faxes from this number. My business partner has a fax number one digit away from mine and the same thing has happened to him. This company needs to be stopped!!!

Spam faxxing? I thought that went out with Dow 36,000!

Anyway, thanks for the info. Makes sense. I did see a story recently on /. about some regulation on faxing being relaxed. I guess the vermin are just getting ready.

Hey gang, I have been talking with the law & I am working on reverse engineering these turkeys. The one thing that was shared with me is "be careful what you say online" we can be traced even though we are signed in as anonymous. I know this as I have sequestered server logs from an online company in a murder investigation. If something violent happens to these scumbagz we can be added to the already growing list of those who want them in the hospital. Keep the event reports happening so we can build a case. We need to know how many people they call in a night and where. I am going to contact the media and see if we can get this on the news so others will come forth. Anyone got connects over at CBS or FOX?

I doubt there ever will be - their purpose seems to be primarily to rewrite the regulations so that media conglomerates can own everything, and to fine TV stations for "indecency," not to actually do any enforcement that matters.

I'm glad I took time out of studying to look up these jerks because I have finally had to turn off my fax answering line just stop the crap from coming in unlike several of you who are force to turn off the phone.

I pulled together some info on the web from my own notes and from some others. I'm saving this on my computer so I can follow up after school, but what a headache!!! I also pulled info on their advertised website. Most of these sites are hosted by GoDaddy.com and using (GD's) their privacy service. It is advisable to contact that company if you're being e-spammed too.

I just got this call too. I happened to look it up on yellowpages.com and a Texas or Colorado address comes up, but on my Caller ID it says 818. 818 is in the valley area. It was 1:23 in the freakin' morning. Then I just typed the number in google and I found this. Well at least now I kind of know what is going on.

Just got a call here at my home in Hollywood, at 6:04am - (323) area code, unlisted. caller id showed same (818) number as above, same company name - THE HOT LEAD. My fax machine picked up, and they proceeded to send a blank fax, no identifying headers. How do I stop them from sending junk faxes now? I need to keep my fax on for business purposes!

I'm a network administrator and my company has about 250 fax numbers that go through a fax server then get distributed to employees. I'm getting about 2-4 faxes per number each day. Our company relies heavily on faxes from clients and when our fax lines are jammed with junk, we lose money. I'm currently documenting the date and time and the length of the transmition for each fax from our fax server. I will send my information to our accounting dept and have them crunch the numbers to figure out how much money we are possibly be losing. After that I will be contacting our company's lawyers. 5/30/06: I am in 626 area code (Arcadia, Ca) and received a 3:00am phone call from (818) 638-8049. Found this page via google. Called the Hot Leads phone # listed here and asked them to take my phone number off the list. Can't anything be done about this company? Aren't they violating several laws (caller id spoofing, calling at ungodly hours, unsolicited faxes)?

Here is Hot Lead's toll-free phone number: 1-800-317-8309. Everyone who disagrees with their junk-fax tactics should give them a phone call and very slowly explain to them why they should not send junk faxes.

Any way, two nights ago my cell rang at 3 am, but it said (no number), wich left me pissed but without much to do. Then LAST NIGHT my husband's cell rang!! I picked it up yelled at them and hung up. Now I know that no one would have answered.

I've received several calls from this number over the past couple of months. It's now become just about every day. I received one call on Saturday, June 3rd, and another today, June 5th. I just filed a complaint with the FCC. I'm on the Do-Not-Call Registry, so I'm of course very unhappy with this situation.

Then a junk fax from Stock News Journal at 8:00am. Looks like they are searching to build a fax number list. Really disturbing to get a call at 3:50 AM - any real action anyone suggests? I like the class action lawsuit - how about a bunch of small claims cases if they are really in Glendale??

626 area code, got a call at 12:15 am. They were calling in a block of prepaid phones and cost every number they hit ten cents.

Arcadia, (626)area code -Received a call at 5:55AM. Tried to call back the number 818-638-8049 and of course it is disconnected. Hat's off to the guy who put together the do-not-call email, it saved me some time. Best thing to do is call the FCC as well as the FTC and complain if this keeps reoccuring. Get a case number to include in your emails. This is like spam, just more annoying. Nice to see I'm not the only one. Now, I'm going back to sleep.

I was one of the many people that this company called in the middle of the night. I followed up on the Google Search, and found an address of 401 N. Branch Blvd. in Glendale. Since the recent calls all appear to around the Glendale, CA area, this might be a good address. I happened to be in that area this morning, and that address is a large office building. The Hot Lead Co has an office in Suite 505. I went to that office, and the office was closed, but they still look like they are in business. The company name is on the door and on the directory of the office on the 1st floor.

Also - that recording that says the number has been disconnected doesn't sound legitimate - it doesn't sound like the recording used in our area - I wonder if that is fake? Maybe the number is still good.

Is there anyone with connections to the Glendale Police Department who might be able to convince them to investigate the company for annoying phone calls?

I thought it was one of my friends, because they're the only ones who call me at those times. I finally found the phone numbers to get a hold of The Hot Lead Company!! some poor receptionist answered the phone. she told me she gets calls all day long about this. she took my phone number off their database, we'll see if that works. but to anyone who want to call and harass these people like they harass us, here's their info

Despite losing millions in court (judgments they never pay), and despite numerous injunctions (that they all ignore), they just change the name of their company and do the same fax broadcasting over and over and over again. I personally get their faxes and I get more complaints about them than any other company on the entire website. That's pretty impressive.

7/16/2006, 7 am Sunday, My area code is also 626. Someone gotta stop them.

We got a missed call on Sunday at 2:30am on our land line from this number. Fortunately the ringer was turned off. Then the very next night just after we had fallen asleep around midnight, I got a call on my cell phone from this number. The miserable m#th*rfuc$*rs need to be stopped. Search on White POages says it is a land line from MCI, Worldcom in Glendale.
Definitely will file a complaint and we must all do what we can to stop these lousy bastards.

Here is something I came across that may be helpful to those of you whom are trying to prosecute this perp. I found a registration of incorporation in Nevada for Mike Horne and The Hot Lead Company, L.L.C. (Corp # LLC10152-2003)
I guess this means this guy's assets are untouchable, but here is the info anyway:
The resident agent is Millenium Corporate Services; 3914 Seaton Place, Las Vegas NV, 89121. Mike Horne is listed as the managing partner.

Thought it was something to do with our home or our pets since we have someone housesitting for us.

Got another fax from them this morning at 4:20am. Not life insurance this time but the "if you want your name removed" message on the bottom is the same 877 number.

Guys, if you want you fax number removed you gotta write the number clearly in the middle of the page so that they can see it. I called them today & asked them WTF? The lady on the phone said they can't delete the number if they can't read it & sometimes the "from" number doesn't come through on their fax.

P.S. They have one of those systems where the faxes go to their computer to be viewed b4 printout, so faxing 100's of times does nothing but waste our time. If they see dozens of faxes w/the same digital sig they just delete them. The lady also told me that it takes about 72 hrs to get removed so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Called us at 4:30 am last night. 8-20-06.. typed the number in google...found several articles on horne, plano, etc, but I wonder is this isn't some insider who has rigged the phone company caller id system and used it to probe and gather working cell/unlisted/new numbers for a massive database. otherwise, i join in all of the @#*!!! remarks about the caller.

I received a call from 818-638-8049 at 11:40 pm last night! I'm on the National Do Not Call Reg., but apparently that didn't stop them. Since I haven't been able to reach this company at any other listed number, I think I'll just notify the FCC and the BBB

Hey, douchebag, several of us did file a complaint and know what kind of response we got: zilch. The FCC was too busy shredding reports exposing the corporate monopolization of local media.

Meanwhile, read through the comments here and you'll see some people really have got off their ass and have done something more than fill out an online form for the FCC dev null box.

Thanks for the VERY helpful blog. I got my "Hot Leads" call last night at 3:40am -- and yes, it pissed me off. I'm glad for this blog as it's a great resource. Since this jerk Mike Horne's cell phone number is available: 972-679-9379 -- I suggest anyone who wants "justice" simply "return the favor" as Anonymous above suggests. The government can't shut him down and there is NO other recourse or satisfaction but to give him a taste of his own medicine.
I suggest calling 972-679-9379 and doing it in the middle of the night Texas time and simply say over and over "hot leads, hot leads, hot leads, hot leads" until he hangs up. It is similar to what his fax machines are doing. If he doesn't answer, then clog his voicemail with numerous calls. Call as many times until you feel good and satisfied. At least he'll have to scroll through all of them. Then sooner or later, he'll have to change his cell phone number, but not before he gets a dose of his own.

I work @ a 24/7/365 type of business in El Segundo. The graveyard person is required to monitor many things including 9 phones on 4 numbers and several differant extensions. This morning @ about 3.45am, the calls started. They've rang through the main numbers and have even started hitting the extensions. I lost track of how many fairly quick. Bad thing is, I have to pick up everyone (may be a client). Same results with calling the number, out of service.

I work in Burbank near the airport for a big company (those of you in the area can probably guess), this came to my office number (a direct line), 3:44 PM October 13th.

I just got a call at exactly 12 midnight on my cell phone. Seems like all the calls people are receiving are on the hour or the half-hour. This is the first time I have gotten such a call. Are people here having it occur time after time?

I got a call at 1:44 AM with the same identifying company name and number. I reported it on the Do Not Call webpage as well as contacting AT&T (the phoney number they give shows a Glendale, CA prefix), and AT&T told me to report it to the California Public Utilities (which I did) and they told me to report it to the FCC (which I did). They told me to also contact the Better Business Bureau and called it "spoofing" where they can show a call coming from one number when it's actually coming from another(just like with e-mail addresses).

I actually found a way to get these bastards where it hurts... in the wallet. They have been spamming my efax number and I have to pay for every efax that goes through, so I called my attorney and she said that since it is costing me money I actually can sue them for it. It's a small amount of money, .20 per page, but to have them spend a fortune on lawyers fees, when I don't have to py anything is so worth it.

I tracked down a company that uses these jerks, the company Adventures 2000, and activity club for singles, told me the name of the company is " Fax Advertising " and the phone number of 800 317-8309 . I called and the gal said that's all she does is answer calls and deletes fax # as requested. It also had the following numbers to return faxes and leads: 877-301-7630 and to delete your fax number: 877 877-0643 .

" Adventure 2000 " or " Adventures 2000 " or " Adventures2000.net " out of Phoenix, AZ used their services. Their memberships sell for $1500 when doing a google search and found a craigslist ad to dump their transferable membership.

I am getting faxes from these people about once a week. Each time trying to sell something different. I tried calling the # on the fax to delete the fax number....no luck. BTW...I am in Florida.

These guys are just the notorious "American Blast Fax" with a different name.

We get more complaints about these clowns than any other junk faxer. And history proves that the ONLY way to shut them down is you have to convince the Texas Attorney General to bring an action in federal court to get an injunction so that they stop. This is how fax.com was finally shut down in California. Nothing else worked. The reason an injunction works is that the Horne's go to jail for a few years if they violate a federal injunction. They give a shit about that. Everything else is a joke. You can refer them to this page. The Texas AG already has an injunction against them. They need to bring an Order to Show Cause why the Horne's shouldn't be held in contempt. When you call, you can refer to this page: 8-22-2001 Cornyn Announces Court Judgment Against Broadcast Fax Business. Ask them why they aren't enforcing the injunction that they spent so much time and effort to get.

The Hornes basically set up all sorts of companies to hide from people who go after them. And in depositions they can't seem to remember much. And they make it really hard to serve them (they have lots of experience evading process servers). So My Hot Leads is just a marketing company. That company then utilizes a faxing company. That faxing company leases equipment from an equipment leasing company. But Horne controls all the companies. It's just a shell game.

It's also possible that Mike and Greg Horne are the same person. There is evidence of a Michael Greg Horne with aka's MIke Horne, Greg Horne, and Robert Horne. The main person goes by the name Mike Horne.

Larry Krouse (see below) works there, along with Mike and Greg Horne. Krouse says he is just a sales rep who works there and Krouse told me (May 2006) that he reports to Steve Faulkner.

Since late March 2006 up to and including when this was written (May 3, 2006), people have complained about war dialing by "The Hot Lead Company" which shows a callerID number of 818-638-8049 (see The Shit List THE HOT LEAD CO (818-638-8049). That thread traces the name of the company to this page Welcome to the Official Colorado No-Call List which shows that the "The Hot Lead Company" is located at essentially the same address as MY HOT LEADS above, i.e.:

One person on the blog wrote me and said: people have been getting calls from fax machines at ungodly hours, and then if they happen to have a fax machine hooked up to their line (as I unfortunately do, for business purposes), they receive a blank fax. From what I can tell, it looks like they will now start sending me junk faxes, after this blank one. I called their Texas number, posted by one of the bloggers, and asked to be removed from their list, but I doubt it will help. Many of these folks who got called say their numbers are unlisted and on the do-not-call lists!

I'm going through my email at 4:30pm. I notice an efax I got at 8:40am. It is yet another mortgage offer. The fax says to fill out the form and fax back to 1-800-801-3577. To delete, you are supposed to call 1-800-801-3126.

I do a local Google search on my hard disk and find that earlier this very morning, dw had posted a message on the junkfax list:

Mr Horne has set up shop above Pomeroy's Shoes in Mesa Arizona Operating as SCM LLC a NV Corp . "He has set up a bunch of computers up on the 2nd floor and is sending out faxes" according to information obtained. [ But this is just one of his locations. They have faxing locations all over the country. For example, they have 48 lines from Bellsouth in Atlanta.]

One might speculate that SCM stands for Sunbelt Communications & Marketing but they are actually "different" companies (same people, just two different names). The Nevada secretary of state website shows that the President Laura Horne (Greg's wife). The VP is listed at Greg Hornf.

My Hot Leads Customers

I feigned interest om a "1% mortgages!" fax and got a call back from Danny Kitchell 760-431-7700 DRE # 01306378 offering to broker a refi for me. When I returned his call yesterday at 2pm, I asked him if "the payment options on the original fax are representative" of the payments available from the various lenders or if they are actual. He responded that "they are typical of negative amortization schedules..."

In fact, a DRE search shows that Danny is the agent.

So I did a google search to find the name of the company:

At around 5pm, I called the 760-431-7700 number from my office. I said I was calling for Danny. The person asked why I was calling and I said I was calling about the lead company they were using. The person then told me that they used 3 different companies to generate leads and weren't really happy with any of them due to the quality of the leads. The person identified himself as Peter Edelmuth and even spelled his last name for me. I explained no, I wanted to get off the fax list and so Peter said Danny is the person to contact and told me to contact Danny at 760-607-0440.

I called that number and was connected with a receptionist who answered the phone "Pacific First Mortgage." I asked for Danny and put right through to him. I told him I wanted to know who he used to generate leads. He then started giving me the third degree as to how I got his name, etc. I told him someone had responded to the fax and was called by him. He asked who that was. I said that that person was using an assumed name and I didn't know what name he used. I told Danny I just wanted the name of the lead broker who was sending me the faxes. Danny said if I gave him my fax number, he'd have me taken off the list. I told him I wanted to know the lead broker so I could sue them. He again offered to take my number. I gave him my toll free number so he could have the lead broker call me. I asked him if it was Mike or Greg Horne. He hadn't heard of those names. I asked him about My Hot Leads and he said he had heard of them. I asked him who his contact was at My Hot Leads. He refused to give it to me. He said he'd give my number to the lead broker to call me. I called him again at 5:50pm. Danny said that he had heard I had talked to his partner, Peter. I asked if his contact was Larry Krouse. He didn't confirm or deny and told me he was a very busy guy and that he'd have the lead broker call me and was there anything else I wanted.

Dave Crandall calls my cell phone from their office (1-972-248-3051). He tells me he's calling for a client of theirs. He finally admits he's with MY HOT LEADS. He wants my fax number so I can be removed from their list. I tell him I want them to stop illegal faxing period. I tell him about the 2 injunctions against the Hornes. He refuses to admit who he knows and/or works with.

so there it is. those of you who have actually received faxes from the hot lead's clientele, keep calling the companies and then post their information here so we can all collectively and actively protest against them as well.

my husband and I have been recieving calls from these ass wipes also, i have filed a complaint with the fcc and the ftc and have a record of the calls which happen every day, but they never talk when we answer the cell . this is harassment and we will follow thru with a class action law suit . the number we get our calls from are in the phoenix area 480-212-0670 i will leave my e mail later if you are all interested in the class action

Just received a call on from 1-818-638-8049 on 1/2/2007 @ 3:19PM. I have an 818-574 SkypeIn telephone number, and I also live in Glendale.

I tried calling them back and got a recording:

"The number you have reached is not in service, this is a recording." repeated twice, then got a busy singal.

This is definatly NOT a standard voice recording by the telephone company in the local Glendale area. I beleive the recording is just a telephone recording machine picking up and playing back a voice recording.

Got the call in Az at about 12:00 p.m. My wife and I were interrupted in the middle of season 4 of 24.

After reading all the posts and dosier on the family; I think it's time we called in Jack Bauer.

This is a matter for CTU, unless Jack goes dark, that will work as well.

Received a call 1/3/07 at 11:04am on my work number (818), so less of a hassle than being woken up in the middle of the night!

Filed a complaint on the DoNotCall site, just to add to the volume of complaints (too many government departments respond only when a threshold number of complaints is reached).

Huh. It turns out you can't register your work number for the Do Not Call registry.

The regulations actually allow these crappy so-called "business-to-business" calls to be made (but if you register a business number, how would anyone know??? It could just as easily be a personal number).

For now I'm going to continue to file complaints every time these scum call my work number, just to make sure the volume of complaints reflects the level of nuisance.

Some people should read all comments before postint the same comments others have posted, but I guess those same people won't be reading my comments then... ;-)

Well I called the 877 number ans asked the nice lady to take my phone number off the list. She said no problem. If I don't post back then it's off... ;-)

I've been getting calls from the Hot Lead Co (818) 638-8049 for a while now. I just found this forum. I added a complaint with the donotcall.gov website.

I just got a call from "the hot lead co" number 480 212 0670 9:51 pm. There didn't seem to be anyone on the line so I really don't see the point in the call other than irritating.

February 18, 2007 and I'm so sick of this company showing up on my caller ID. They are up to nearly 3 times a day now ... from number 480-212-0670! I just googled them and it brought me to this site. I have contacted my phone company and have blocked the call. I sure hope that stops them from getting through. If not ... there's lot of great advice on this site ... including the phone number of Mike Horne (972) 679-9379 and Hot Leads toll free number 800-317-8309. What the hell good is it to be on the Do Not Call Registry if there is no consequence for their violations?

I have been getting calls from 480-212-0670 and 480-212-0125, but did not know who they were until I found this list.

Like everyone else, when I answer these calls, there's nobody there, I can't call them back, etc.

I tried a reverse-number lookup and couldn't find a listing for them.

It has been maddening!

If you want to be removed from their list: Call Dave Crandall at 1-800-317-8309 or Fax him at 800-627-3723. Include the fax numbers you want to be removed (since they already have your number, it's not like giving them something that they don't already know!). i'm an out-of-work metal caster, looking for a job, so when i saw the hot lead co. on my caller i.d., i read it as lead(said 'led'), and thought it might be for me. they called at 10:25a.m.,so no prob there. since my husband has been adding us to no call list, i googled before i called back, (because they didnt hang up when the answering machine picked up, but they didnt talk either, which i find odd).the number used here was 480 212-0670, and 480 is a tempe, and scottsdale az area code, im in phx. I dont think i will call them back after reading all the stuff on this site.

I can't beleive that a company would send me a faxed ad (says to fax back completed form for 'polo shirts' to 877-301-7630) without even listing their company name, logo, address or any other information. That is just terrible business!

480-212-0670 is a fax spammer based (or re-routed) in Arizona, you should contact the AZ AG's office, they are aware of these clowns (from at least 8 months ago) - the more, the merrier.

I constantly get calls in the middle of the night from 480-212-0670 (Hot Lead Co) and 480-212-0125 (Wealth Mgmt Re) I called 800-317-8309 this morning, and talked to a live person, and requested that they remove me from the fax list, since I don't even have a fax machine. the lady said they would do it within 24 hours.

I have been continually getting calls from this company at all hours. I checked another site on the internet and it gave 1-800-317-8309 as their number. I called this number for the Hot Lead Co. and asked that they stop calling me. They said they would remove my # from the list within 24 hours. I hope this is the case. Maybe this will work for others as well.

Just to add to the pile, I have also been faxed constantly by these folks. I called the 800-317-8309 number and spoke with Sarah. She told me she would remove my fax number from their list--takes 24 hrs or so.

We'll see. If anyone wants to file a suit, I'm sure there would be a lot of takers.
